Eastern Threads was conceived on a study abroad to Tanzania, East Africa. Having had previously traveled to several West African nations, I noticed that textiles offered on the eastern coast of Africa were very different than those offered in the west. I engaged in extensive study of African fabrics of the east, west and in between, and became enthralled with the historic and contemporary stories surrounding African textiles and fabrics. Although what is traditionally regarded as the most popular"African" fabrics (Ankara and Batik) have varying origins, the styles in which they are displayed are uniquely African.

Eastern Threads’ mission is to celebrate the complexities and beauty of the vibrancy of African style by bringing African textile inspired fashion, accessories and home decor to the marketplace. We hope that you share in this journey with us by bringing us into your homes!
